Can anyone tell me what cylinder head this is?
The engine should be a 350 cui.

Tobi

sorry for my english, i'm from switzerlandPontiac-V8-heads-Casting-and-Type.jpgIMG_20220630_192153.pngIMG_20220630_192225.pngIMG_20220630_192239.pngIMG_20220630_192250.pngIMG_20220630_192254.png

Casting number is under the valve cover if it's a Pontiac engine......Plain 7 is not a Pontiac head code...plus why is the engine orange? Canadian Pontiacs had Chevrolet engines ( Orange paint)

Pic of the whole engine would help too...

Think it's a Pontiac engine because of the spark plug location in relation to the exhaust port but need casting number under valve cover.

Hello,
thank you for the answers. It was supposed to be a 350 engine stroked to a 413. Where is the code under the valve cover? In the valve cover or on the head?

It's cast into the top of the cylinder head. This appears to be Pontiac, fuel pump line is coming from drivers side and distributor vacuum advance is on drivers side.
Somebody did some work to heads since it has pushrod guide plates and roller tip rockers.
Do you see a block code under the front of the passenger side cylinder head? That will tell you if it was originally a 350.

The code is yp.
I could still get 1970 GTO #12 heads. Would they be performance enhancing?

Tobi

The 481990 combined with the YP was one year only .
1971, 350,250 HP, manual transmission, 8.0 compression ratio,555 cam, 94 heads, 2bbl carburetor.

Thank you.
Would the 1970 GTO #12 heads do a little more power?

Tobi
We haven't established what heads you currently have only the original block.
In addition do you have details on the stroking kit that was installed?
If it was installed they would also have changed the camshaft.
The 12 heads, do they have screw in rocker studs?

Hello,
Unfortunately I can't say anything about the stroker kit. I got the engine like this.
Then I prefer to let it be.

Impossible to know what compression ratio you would end up with without the details.

Going by the casting date code E108, E=May, 10=10th day of the month, 8= either 1968 or 1778. The fact that the head is not a 6X head leads me to believe the head was cast in May of 1968. The head codes for 1968 only have 1 head type listed with a 7 as the second digit, so I think the head should read 17, that would be a 1968 350 2bbl head, pressed in studs, small valve (1.96" intake, 1.66 exhaust) with a stock compression ratio of 9.2 to 1.

But without bore and stroke numbers it is impossible to tell what compression ration you actually have. A compression test reading would help. I would not want to up the compression ratio much above the 9.2 the stock engine would have. As today's Gas does not like higher compression ratio's with cast iron heads. Just opinion.
