I have found the build lists for my other 74 vehicles, one I found up on top of the gas tank, another I found inside the passenger door of my 74 El camino. I also found another build list inside the door panel of my 74 Chevelle, but Im curious is to where i might look to find the build list of my 77 Pontiac Grand Prix.
The build list was a piece of paper, listing all the cars options and gear ratios transmission, power windows, engine size, color, tire size, you name it, kind of like a Recipe for your car as it was entering the assembly line the day it was first put together, the workers at the plant, would stash them in strange places as they were putting parts on the cars.
My question is, has anyone found their pontiacs build list, and where did you find it.
Dont lose it, it proves your vehicles originality, and contains helpful information, when you need to replace broken parts.
Thank you

In the past I have found several build sheets in my Pontiac's, Most were either on top of the gas tank, or under the Carpeting. But I have also found them tucked into the lower seat springs (both front and back seats) and on my fathers 78 Catalina Safari I found one behind the passenger side front door panel, It also had a large "rework" sticker applied next to it. Also it was th only build sheet I have found that was taped in place, all the others were just stuffed in place.
I don't know what needed to be reworked on the 78 wagons door. But seeing it had a build sheet taped next to it I suspect it was option related, either power windows or Locks, Possibly the passenger side rear view mirror.

Man Dude, sounds like you have hit the jack pot many times in finding build lists, Thanks for all that info. so I should check the seat springs. before looking in the door panels. These pontiacs have all kinds of chevy parts on them/ I have a 74 El Camino with the same A body as my Grand prix. and the windshield and trim are identical to my el camnio, the wiper motors, the hood release cable, the door thresholds medallion enplanes, FISHER.
and that part is the same as my el caminos too. but these two vehicles came from different far away places, and the workes would be different people, so someone at GM was telling them to hide these build lists in the cars, Right? because if you give it to the customer they will lose it. so its all part of helping some mechanic one day, too bad they did not hide money, to pay the bill. lol

Actually the line workers were supposed to throw out the build sheets when the final process they were intended to indicate what parts to install were completed. But from what I have been told the trash cans were located several feet away from were the work was preformed so many times the worker either did not bother to take the extra steps, or was pressed for time. There were several build sheets printed for each car. As different departments needed them for work being done in parallel as the car was assembled, seat shops, chassis assembly ect...
The reason I have found so many is I have owned or parted out over 50 older Pontiac's over 40 years of ownership starting in the mid 1970's. Good luck finding one in your car! I have found them in around 1/2 of the cars I have owned. But not all of them.
