Hi,

My girlfriend's car is a 2005 Sunfire and it has several issues that have arisen in a short period of time. Therefore, I have questions for each:

First, the AC vent(s) make a rhythmic "clicking" sound every time the vehicle is turned on. It sounds like the vents are trying to close but can't. When I switch between the different setting (max, bi-level, heater, vent), the sound will stop temporarily (few seconds) then continue again. Does anybody know how to fix this, or what is wrong with it? Something stuck or broken?

Second, the gauges on the dash have all stopped working (besides car temp). First the gas gauge stop, then speedometer, then tachometer. For the gas gauge, it has turned back on itself, passed full, and back around to about 7 o clock. When it began acting up, sometimes it would work, sometimes it wouldn't. It is now frozen at position described and never works.
For the speedometer, it quit suddenly. I have noticed it to work temporarily, at start up, in cold weather. Once the car's temp rises, its ability to function slowly diminishes until it again remains at 0mph.
The last, and most recent to quit, is the tachometer. It also quit suddenly. I have not had a chance to see if it is also temperature dependent as well. Same question as above, does anybody know what is wrong, or how I can fix it?

Thanks for your time and suggestions.

Tony

1. Check the mechanism for moving the air selector door.
2. The dash curcuit board probably needs replacing.

Maybe a grounding issue? At least it sounds as if the connection between the fuel gauge and the sending unit has gone to ground, and is causing the gauge to top out at its bottoming pin? Just a thought.

Good luck.

sounds like your Instrument cluster took a dump common issue of sunfires and caviliers , and the little motor that controls the door on heating is bad I found one online

This supports my conclusion. The dash circuit board/instrument cluster and air selector mechanism/little motor that controls door are shot. Thanks for link brother. Anybody know best way of getting to these two things. Especially the vent motor; it seems buried.

Thanks

well the cluster is kinda a pain , I have done a few at work and your going to have to take most of the dash apart , that would be a good time to look for that heater control motor. I suggest allowing most of a day to do so , take it slow if you have never done one . My 1st one i did took me around 4 hours . They just love to hide dash screws ! LOL
