I just recently put a new output shaft seal on the left rear of my indy fiero. It had a very small leak. It seemed to go together as it should. I put three quarts of 5 W 30 in it and it still leaks from the same seal. Mind you, I've had this car for three years and haven't driven it yet. It didn't start leaking until recently. I'm gonna start driving it next year. It only has 62,335 original miles. It is # 374. Ok, the tranny case looked fine where the seal goes in. Is there a trick to these seals. I've never had this happen to any other vehicle I put a new seal in. This is my first fiero. Thanks for any help.

was the shaft scored? did your recheck that you installed the correct part number?

Well, I'm pretty sure it was the correct seal. I got it at oreilly's and I assume they gave me the right seal. I'll check the number on the receipt. The shaft had some surface rust on it so I wire-wheeled all of it off until it looked like new. Some of the rust was where the seal and shaft come in contact. I figured that was why it was leaking in the first place since it's got low mileage and it's been sitting. Storing the car on jackstands wouldn't have anything to do with it would it since the suspension is unloaded?

Recheck that they gave you the correct seal, did you compare it to the original? Did you lubricate the seal where it touches the shaft?

I'll recheck the number when I get home. It did look exactly like the original, with those holes that go around it. I did put grease on the seal.

I checked my receipt and the seal is a 3543. Mine is a 4-speed. Is this the right seal?

without knowing who manufactured the seal there is no way to check it, who made it?

I don't remember the manufacturer name. I just looked on ebay and on the fiero store website. It looks just like the one the fiero store sells. I'm pretty sure it's right. I guess I'm just gonna take it back apart, get another seal and put it back together. Should be easy. I cleaned and rebuilt the caliper, new rotor, new pads, new cable, new tie rod end, and put anti-seize on the bolts.I just hate doing things twice. Especially when I don't think I did anything wrong to begin with.

I just saw these special seals the fiero store sells. They're called axle stabilizer bearing and seal. They say they're suppose to eliminate seal leak, axle vibration, and support inner trans bearings. The only thing is they cost 160.00 for a pair! Maybe this is a common problem .
