Looking to purchase a 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix with 145k on the 3.1 motor. im not too familiar with this motor, im more familiar with the 3.8 and the 4.3 , and the 5.7. if some one could please help me on this, id greatly appreciate it. thanks!

Well its pretty much the same thing for a 3.8 or 3.1 or 3.4, they all will eventually need intake gaskets but at least you wont need to buy an upper plenum like on a 3.8L. Watch for that and typical Fuel pump module failing. Thats pretty much the main concerns with these cars, just keep up with maintenance and services. Id look at the coolant in the radiator first if I were you make sure its clean and not gunked up and make sure its the right coolant type some people mix dexcool antifreeze and it starts to gunk up.

well let me put it to u this way on my 1992 grand prix i got 282,468 and the runs just like it was brand new. but it was rebulit at 122,000

I just recently traded for a 1988 with the 2.8 V6. It has 250,000 miles. It has never been rebuilt. It is running on 5 cylinders, but it still runs really good, just bad top-end power.

i just replaced head gaskets on a 1990 3.1 with 150,000 miles. the cylinder walls looked good and had no noticable ridge at the top. the gaskets were getting tired though. i decided to change them while i was replacing the lower intake gaskets to stop engine surge and seal oil leaks.

I had a 96 Coupe that had 110,000 on it when I had to change the tranny. I mean the transmission, not my brother. The tranny went out again at 198,000 and I retired the car. People tell me they ocasionally se my car in town five years after so it must have over 200K on it by now

I have a 98 GTP at 165K, runs strong and tranny is good. Trannies last about 100K in my opinion. Take it to a tranny shop and if they say it is good to go, buy it. BTW if it seems sluggish it is probably the center back sparkplug. Many times they dont get replaced because they are a real beeeach to get to.

Grand Prix is a great car, too bad Obama shut them down and forced GM to develop the Volt. Government corruption at its best and I mourn for the sacrifice of the Pontiac nameplate just because they build the powerful muscle cars that liberals hate.
