I need a step by step how to time my engine. Its a 1975 350 Pontiac engine. I have a timing light and I know how to hook it up but I don't know the rest.

disconnect the vacuum line connected the vacuum advance on the distributor. Get a ratchet with a long extensions, probably need a universal joint and 9/16 socket. With the engine off mark the groove in the balancer with some white paint. THe timing spec should be on the decal on your fan shroud. start the engine and check the timing. if it has to adjusted loosen the distributor hold down clamp and carefully turn the distributor whlle watching the mark.

The decal on the fan is gone. Do you know the timing spec?

Just get the mark on 16 degrees and tighten up the bolt

I don't have to set it to top dead center then time it and do I plug the vacuum line?

No just time it. Base timing is only for engines that have been apart. Yes Plug the line

I don't know if the 75 still has points, but if it does, remember, you need to re-time after changing the points and setting the dwell.
