Lemans 326 v8 wont start

Thanks for all your help and suggestions especially all the "check timing" reply's. The problem was the timing gear. All the nylon teeth were stripped off. Have parts on order and will replace everything. Thanks again.

Wow that's the worst one I have ever seen, usually they are just missing a few or a small section.

I had a1977 Cutless 442 with the 403 v8 same problem it had not jumped time
but i had heard of this happening to other cars, when apart i saw the nylon teeth
had broken off the aluminum gear, during a later job all the pieces had been sucked in the
oil pump pick up .

Did you have to drop the pan or how did you get the pieces out? I was hoping they will come out w g en I drain the oil.

Hi thanks for reply i was trying to fix a rear seal leak and yes if i remember to get the rear bearing cap off u had to take off the oil
pump so yes undo motor mount jack up engine and remove oil pan ,banging pump on the floor pieces came from the pick up tube
it was a rope seal in 2 parts did not manage to fix leak entirely only replaced bottom half it was at a work shop had a hoist and everything
did the job again at my house but had to hold the engine up on a bar across attic access hole this time i made a sneaky snake out of wire and
pulled the top half of seal over crankshaft still was not a total fix but better .
