New Montana owner (well soon) questions

Again nice van and very very nice price ,if you are handy changing a water pump is not all that hard ,just bleeding the system is sometimes a pain but in your case should be a breeze without rear heat/air,as far as the power steering leak maybe just a line again they are easy also just 2 fittings on the ends probably getting to them is a pain .As far as the other issues looks like you are working through them .Good luck

A few things have popped up.

We are hoping to get the power steering line replaced this week (found a guy who will do it for 30?). In the mean time, the check engine light came on. Stopped by Autozone to have it scanned and when the guy plugged in the OBDII scanner, it wouldn't power on. So I got to check all the fuses.

The next thing is the overhead console says "ICE" on start up. Any idea what that means?

Also, blower motor resister needs replaced. No longer have 1 or 2 on the blower.

terrehautian: The ice display should only be displayed I believe if the outside temp is below 38 degrees but should toggle between ice and the temperature for the first maybe 10 minutes ,check the manual it talks about it in there ,also the old gm blower motor resistor defect ,well at least its easy to get to on these vans ,not sure what to tell you about obd 2 port looks as if your going in the right direction somewhere I saw a pin out of the port as of what pins have what voltage and which one is ground try doing a search for it for this site if I find I will post , Good luck keep us posted.

Okay, didn't know about the ICE message. As for the blower motor resister, same thing happened in my Malibu (so I knew that was the problem), so how do I replace it if it is easy?

EDIT: Found this, a lot easier then my Malibu.

EDIT 2: Fuse for cigerrette plug (which isn't in right now anyway) was blown so I replaced it. I ended up having to run to Autozone to get some 15amp fuses since all I had was 10,20and 30's. Fuse replaced and the scanner came up with an o2 sensor. Get all these nickel and dime things out of the way and the van will be good.

So far what needs done.
*power steering hose (30 dollars will fix this supposedly)
*oxygen sensor (60 for sensor and I might be able to put it in)
*blower motor resister (I should be able to do this one)
*have a third mechanic look at intake manifold gasket and water pump (one person said it is bad, one said it isn't. I believe the one who said it isn't since it stayed at his house for over a year).
*fix headlight housing due to moisture (or replace) and put in silver star bulbs.
*buy two new cabin air filters

Things I want to find
*air hose kit that came with it originally
* cigarette tray since mine was broken and didn't' stay in.

When you put those silver stars in let us know if you like them .I put a set in my regal about 4 yrs ago and they are still in there ,such a bright white light but those headlamps don't have moisture in them. When the Montana's lamps go I will do the same ,in fact now they have something better called I think ULTRA'S . Maybe someday I will just swap them out need all the light I can get .

Also why 2 cabin air filters ? Is there one in the back also ?

There is two in the front. There is one beside the one you see when you open the access door.

On the seat belt issue, I need ot replace the belt unit, how do I get to the bolts that hold it on off?

you will have to take the trim off and you will find a bolt(s) that holds down the retractable assembly and from there replace it , probably the seat belt is ok but just the assembly is bad although you will probably have to replace the whole thing including the side mount ,good luck keep us posted with pics.

Got a blower motor resister at Autozone for 29 dollars with tax, lifetime warranty. Power steering line being replaced tomorrow. Maybe I will get Cabin air filters and windshield wipers tomorrow also. It needs a wash, but still too cold.

Tried the headlight restore, don't think it will make much of a difference though. Will post pictures in a minute (it will be posted, but since it is a picture link, it has to be approved).

I think there is a couple of issues going on with thesse headlights first the outside is a distorted from the uv rays and second the inside is fogged from moisture and then maybe some coating gets formed on the inside I think to do it right you might have to pull them out and bake them to dry them complettely and maybe with a stick and a rag and some cleaner do the inside then you can tell from the outside if you buffed enough. My 2 cents. If I ever have time this is my plan then install some ultra silver stars .

Van made its first long distance trip of us owning it today. Right now it is 2 hours north. I am confident in driving it anywhere I wanted to this year.
