New to Me 94

Jacked it up and tried to wiggle the wheel at 12,6,3,&9. took the wheel off and checked the brakes, brakes good. started car and put it in gear noise is present in all gears forward and rev. could not detect any unusual movement or wobble in the hub. With car shut off turned by hand and could hear noise very faintly. I'm stumped. I need to get this car up and running so I'm thinking of replacing the front hub assy on a hunch. Any suggestions??

Regards

I would go with your hunch, replace the hub assembly.

Hub assy it is...Gonna check with Nappa and also on line...not too sure re: after market parts though.

Regards

If you can find one that affordable to you, Timkin is probably the best brand to get.

I checked on line and it appears that Timkin and GM are beyond my means...They seem to be very proud of their parts...

See if you can find a Moog bearing, I think they are a little less expensive. You can sometimes find a Timkin on ebay cheap, but I'd stay away from no name bearings on ebay. I don't know if you have Autozone where you live, but they have them under the duralast name (inhouse), and they are ok, just not quite as reputable as the Timkin ones.

I found an house brand at Nappa for $45. Autozone wants $80 so due to my budget I'll go with the Nappa brand. It's off shore but has a 12 month/12K warranty.

That's good. Good luck with your repair.

You're very welcome. I'm going to be doing this right after the first of the year myself. Good luck with your repair.

As it turned out Both front hubs were bad!!! The first one took me 1 1/2 hrs and the 2nd. one took 45 mins. Car runds smooth and quiet now.

Where is the fuel filter on this vehicle? It's seems to be a bit starved on hard acceleration. Air filter is new.

The fuel filter is located in front of the tank, close to the read axle. Congrats of the hub bearing repair.

I guess for an original investment of $300 I should'nt complain. I've always been a GM owner, just never a Pontiac, always Chevy. Does'nt seem to be much of a mechanical difference though...just appearance and cosmetic.

But I will say it's a good running car, other than regular oil changes at Jiffy Lube it has not been well maintained. It needs alot of TLC,but I guess that's par for an 18 yr. old car.
So far I'm a happy camper...time will tell...

Car quit running tonite. Stumbled like it was out of gas and stopped running. Coasted to a stop and it started back up. It ran rough for about 5 min. and then ran fine, I will replace the fuel filter tomorrow nite. Sure hope thats the problem. I don't think a fuel pump would act like that??
Also the gas guage does not work but the tank is full. Iwill dump some drygas in the tank as well.

Regards

Has the check engine light come back on? Usually a bad fuel filter will make the car starve for fuel under a heavy load. How hard were you on the throttle when it died on you?

Check eng. lite never came on ( only after the stall out ) and then went out after it restarted. I drove it for 30 miles the day before and at times under full throttle. Never skipped a beat.Ran like a scalded dog. It has never shown a code...I'm kinda shootin at shadows.

Well the plot thickens...Put the new fuel filter in and went for a drive, ran fine.Stopped at a friends hs. and let it run while we were talking. after it ran for about 10 mins. it stumbled twice. The temp guage was up to 220 and the fan finally came on. Drove home and the temp still was high, car ran rough like it was running out of gas again. the old owner said he had the plugs, wires and coils replaced not too long ago. He also just told me...Yeah it's been cutting out off and on for a while but it always starts up after it sits for a while. When I got home I shut it off and then restarted it. It turned over like the battery was almot dead? But it started and ran ok???
