Pontiac Sunbird

Sunbirds galore

I have a 91 Sunbird se that I drove the **** out of. Finally bagged on me so I started pulling parts of it to put on my 93 sunbird GT. amazingly the metal on the older sunbird is in better condition. I've taken the front fenders off got them on the newer one. now my doors are not opening and closing right the hinges are looking not to healthy. My question is are they interchangeable?

94' sunbird timing marks

the timing mark on the cam {top sprocket} should be @ 12 o'clock-strait up
The crank notch on bottom pully lines up with the marks on the timing cover at 10 degrees BEFORE top dead center.

Alright Im stumped please help...I have a 1990 Sunbird 2.0 no turbo, I replaced the injecter and presto my car turns over but dont start. I've replaced everything imaginable since then...O2 senser, map senser, fuel pump relay, even the ecm. the fuel pump works fine ,whirrs just like it should. i really need this car but short of spending 100's of dollars at a garage i dont know what to do. any one have any suggestions? and yes i checked all the fuses.

get yourself a spark tester. you can get it at most auto parts store. it's a little tool that you hook up a spark plug (usually the one for the #1 plug) and clip it a head bolt. turn over the key and see if you get a spark. if not, that's most likely what your problem is. all the things you have changed will affect how it starts, but try that. if you have a multimeter (a digital one is best), you can start checking through the ignition components to see if you have a component problem. it also helps if you have a diagram to work with too. good luck and keep us posted.

i just remembered. if you are losing compression, that will keep you from starting the car as well. a compression test will tell you that. a leak down test wouldn't hurt either.

cabin air filter help!

Where is the cabin air filter on a 2004 Pontiac Sunfire?

I'm replacing the head gasket on my 94 pontiac sunbird 2.0 ohc. Everything went well till I aligned the timing marks and started the engine. It started but ran rough. My question is where do you set the crankshaft timing mark? The cam is clearly marked by timing belt cover and notch in cam sproket. The crank has a mark on it also, but do all 3 marks ( cover, cam, and crank) align in a straight line or does the crank have its own mark? I've got a chiltons but its not very clear on the crank.

yes the crank has a notch on it as well with a plate over the crank wheel that crank is suppose to be set between 8-10 degrees tdc (top dead center)
