Wow, so the NSS is worthless.
Remove the two connectors from the NSS.
With the car in park and the key in the run position take a small section of electrical wire and connect the two wires from either connector together. One of them should cause the white backup lights to come on. The other should allow the starter to engage.
Excellent, it was quite frustrating for me to correctly explain what i felt was the problem. I knew you didn't have to take the column out and there was no way you fried the NSS. The clue was you noticing that the shifter moved.
