Moving to P.R.

The rest of 2020 and early 2021 Update:

Still have the car and maybe use it twice a week now that I finally retired from the farm in August, stayed on 2 more months to help the boss in the recycling untill he found someone. So now I'm going on my real 3rd month of completely retired life.

Just been touching up the paint on the old Bird, really busy full steam on finishing the house now.

The only two things that have happened to the Bird was I hit a big pothole and dented the rim on the passenger front and popped out the windshield on that side also. Was able to goop it back in but it's cracked on the far lower side. Doesn't block my vision being that low.
Was able to hammer the rim lip back too so that is fine.

The last day on the farm , I took one last ride around and blew a front brake hose. Fixed that fast but had air in the system that I couldn't get rid of, ended up bleeding the lines about 5 times after 2 months and replacing the disc pads since they were about 80% worn anyways and finally got my pedal back! This was the first year for ABS on the JBody cars and it isn't a great system.

Was going to convert it over to non ABS but I 'll just wait for a guy that is selling parts off his car when his carpel tunnel is healed. He is selling me the rear springs and shocks also.

Not sure how much longer after July I"ll be keeping this car, as my wife's SSI kicks in and we will get something newer for her since it's in her name and she never liked it. I love the old car so we may keep it hanging around for a while after that.

That's all for now, it's been 8 years we've had it , and it's the only car we bought here.

Quite an adventure you and the car are having, thanks for the continuing updates, stay safe and healthy.

December 2021 Update:

Oil and filter change today ( 2 months short of 2 years since the last one. ( Feb 2020 = 3000 miles) Fuel filter changed today also. Pulled the cluster to take out the Abs and brake bulbs which stay on all the time when you put it in gear.....able to get it back in without breaking anything plastic. ( miracle ! )

Getting it emissions tested next week then registered.... Been trying to drive it once a week to not let it sit so much.

Still starts on the first crank ( 154493 miles) 👍

2022 Half Year Update:

Not much to report as the Bird still runs great with no issues, put in some used Cavalier wagon rear shocks and springs that I got from a 2nd Gen JBody Facebook group member , front tire replacement is also needed soon and the car has now eclipsed the 155k mile mark. Still use it a couple days a week to bomb around town or early morning longer trips to Ponce to Home Depot, especially when gas prices were in the $1.34 a liter area. ( $5.00 ) Now that they are now in the $ 4.00 range, I drive the truck more. Some other cosmetic things are needed, but are on the back burner for now.....🤫

Untill the next update...🌝

Great to hear the little Bird is still running well, I recently lost the #1 cylinder on my 67 Firebird:(

Moving to Puerto Rico early next week to join the 92 Sunbird, so I'll be off the grid here for a little while, as our stuff takes 3 weeks to get there and we have work to do on the house till then.

"sunbird" the key word!! enjoy all that sunshine!, and will look for ya, easy on the lumber and paint, feel the steel in your spare time!!!😎

Today was the end of the old Sunbird, off to the Junkyard, was starting to nickel and dimeing us the last couple of months,( radiator hose, wheel hub and battery) Then the PS pressure hose blew and got a cheap replacement but the fitting was the wrong size on one end and couldn't get the other fitting apart on the rack itself. So I plugged pump and drove it for the last couple of months around town untill the the registration ran out on New Years Eve.

We picked up a used 2019 Nissan Rogue Special Edition for my wife ( Sunbird was in her name ) on Halloween for her to replace the old Bird.

It was a good car for the $ 600 we payed for it back in 2012. It was a pickup, farm vehicle, tow truck, deconstruction machine, and worker transport for those 12 years. The engine was super reliable , had to replace the trans after we brought a 88k mile one from in Arizona when we moved... Crazy things had to be replaced on it over the years that I never had to replace on all the cars we've owned .....( Must be the heat and humidity)

Car still ran and drove till the end...( Would kept as a field car if I had a farm or acreage)

I been a fun ride here on this forum, I'll stick around for a while, I guess, to help as needed because I know Mel can't answer all the questions ...😆( but he does👍)
