Moving to P.R.

Its a little soft where it goes into the manifold, otherwise it looks fine on the other end. Further looking this weekend will tell............

Of course ( I checked) , if I need a PCV valve , no one has it in stock.

O'Reilly's got mine in stock! They can get yours. Buck sixty nine here. Probably 5 times that there. $4.52 on eBay w/ free shipping.(Excludes: Alaska/Hawaii, US Protectorates, APO/FPO)

$12 at Autozone here , " Call store to order" Advance Auto Parts but cheaper,

I'll check Pep Boys on the way to Home Depot next weekend.

If not, Ebay it is............;)

Rock Auto is cheap ( about 8 different ones) but I have a shopping cart full of stuff from one warehouse to order and all the PCV's are at the other warehouse so more shipping will be added.

US Protectorates means no shipping to P.R. or US Virgin Islands or Guam:mad:

Cant believe No one stocks it with all the Sunbirds running around here.

I can see part supplies drying up in a few as Sunbirds are selling for $400- $1200 and soon will be a faded memory here...........:(

Well I went to change the hoses today to the PCV valve and the brake booster .

(Thanks for the booster hose suggestion TM, It was really soft where it goes into the manifold but no real signs of a leak . Still was the stock GM hose and clamps )

Came up with a different 3/8 hose for the PCV while digging through my car junk boxes that I "floated" over from Arizona. And just my luck I find a brand new PCV valve too! It had a different number than the AC Delco one in the car but it matched perfectly!:D ( might of come off one of my 3 425 Cadillac motors I had for the Monza)

Had to run to Salinas Auto Parts for some 2 feet of 1/2 hose for the booster and it cost me 2 bucks + tax. I already had found some worm clamps while searching so I was good to go.

Started right up and ran fine but idled higher so I turned the idle screw back down to normal.

Took for a quick test drive into town and it never stalled out.:D

Longer drive is due next week, moral of this post...... Dont throw anything AWAY! :D

Dude Im glad to hear it seems you have really nailed it down.

Those PCV's I think are discontinued or something cause no one where I went looking had them. So I just pulled one off a newer sunbird in the junk yard and made sure it was in better condition (it was) I will probably go to the store and get a brand new one thta just closely matches and just put new hose and elbow that will fit. After all a PCV is a PCV and not much different as long as it closely matches.

Hopefully it stays that way for ya. I am still kind of fighting with my idle as I will outline on the other post.

Having that extra PCV was really lucky.

Also yeah the parts are almost gone in my area. I actually think I am the only guy buying them lol. The sunbirds are really rare now where I live. I have only seen an early model cavalier but nothing as far as the sunbird goes.

Funny thing I keep getting people looking at my car and saying "man I use to have one of those....Pretty decent little car" or "That was my first car" lol Then I oen the hood and they say "DAMN...That looks good for the year"

lol

I used worm clamps on both hoses to make sure neither one doesn't leak , so far so good, no stalling out .................yet.;) (PCV was press fit)

Pisses me off something this stupid had me stumped for weeks............

Never ,ever, had a brake booster hose or pcv go bad ever in any of the cars I ever had or worked on.............

Learn something new every day I guess.......................................

Still a bunch of Birds running around here, Pontiac must of "flooded" the market here with them to make sales. Some people here tell me they had one and they were/are great little cars.........

Bad news, stalled out a bunch yesterday as I hit the highway twice yesterday. Started on the second run (9am) as it was getting hot out.

I turn up the idle a little and it helped , it started to run rough after I got gas on Friday....................................I think I may of gotten some water in the tank ( condensetion) being so low on fuel this week or maybe bad fuel.

I'll see if it improves over the week........................

I bet you're surrounded by bad gas. You only get condensation when the air is cold or you park underground! Like gas station tanks.

Ok from what I have learned from messing with the idle on mine. The stupid computer goes full retard if anything and I mean anything is changed in the TBI. But something that has helped quite a deal and I know I am gonna get some hell for this one because some say yes it improves HP and fixes stalling or idle problems while the other half says yeah it's great for a car to make the intake look like an exhaust pipe. But do an EGR block. It does nothing but cause the computer to bitch and complain and throw the idle off. It's job is literally to make your intake look like an exhaust pipe. Some people whine and claim it circulates hot air and this cools off the intake otherwise the car will over heat. But I can tell you I blocked the shit out of mine and honestly the car performs better. Thats not to say every car would benefit from doing this but I know for a fact this engine does. Just plug the line with a small object if it don't help then no harm no foul you can just remove what you plugged it with.

Cars ran for well over 100 years without an EGR on them. It's just one more thing for the computer to bitch about. And yes I unplugged mine and wished to god I didn't so I plugged it back up.

The EGR on this car is an absolute pain in the ass and does not belong on the engine. The rubber inside of them breaks down in a few years and the diaphragm is no good and you have to buy another one every 3 years and then another and another and another. Better to block it off. Honestly the cars are so old they are usually exempt from emissions test and thats why I blocked mine. Oh yeah and mine don't have a Cat either. See already saved you $160 bucks lol.

Oh and all that the computer will do is flash a CEL on and then it will go off. This will happen at cruising speed cause thats when the computer says "hey go do something really stupid and blow exhaust gases back into the intake"

And personally I challenge anyone who claims this little shitty device is good for their car to open their intake and I will open mine and we will see which one looks better. If I wanted my car to be completely screwed like that I would just run a muffler pipe right up to the intake so I can get the full benefits of exhaust blowing through my system.

Honestly after testing this little thing out I can say wholeheartedly it is absolutely useless.

Thanks , my EGR is still disconnected, no change with it or without it.

Been running just to work and back, idle improved , let it idle for 40 minutes yesterday jumping one of our tractors that the battery had died while we working past dark with all its lights on. ( ended up being the negative cable was loose on it)

Hasnt stalled at all yet....................Doug in P.R.

Thats good to hear Doug hope she stays that way. It could just be the Computer has a bad value stored for you car and is causing it to send a signal to the IAC to close at the wrong time. These cars just have a very sensitive idle. The smallest thing changes the idle if you have to ever mess with the TBI

TM- That sounds good would love to hear a sound clip when its done. Going CAT free does take some finesse when it comes to sound. They have a very tinny sound just on stock pipes. I have entertained the idea of doing the Y pipe but I just didn't want to buy double mufflers lol.

With a 2.0, that would be as cheesy as those guys on crotch rockets who hang two mufflers with flex pipes from a Y. I'll have to cap a crossover hole in the right manifold or find something different.

Well off on a long trip yesterday in the 'Bird, went well on the way there fine even at a light , but it stalled out on the way back 3 times?

Went all the way on the highway on the way there ( Ponce) and then got off half way back and it stalled out 3 times at lights:confused:( hadnt stalled out all week) was kind of idleing rough when it stalled.

Anyway, installed a new torque strut today , had been clunking ....... pics are below ............

Yeah I agree thats why I meant it more of a joke lol. I would do it to that Packard I was talking about trying to find ;) bet that would sound mean as hell.

Doug, I installed a new torque strut about a year ago. I still get torque. Gotta do those mounts when I do the suspension. Topless in the rain today. Mostly dry at 90 mph.

EC, that Packard is Money. A buddy of mine was scrappin' a couple years ago and had a '36 Diamond T he was going to scrap. Got four times scrap value and the guy came down from Canadia to pick it up. Ebay deal.

I've got a few more parts to get still to do my front end. Got all the big stuff but I still need engine and transaxle mounts, tie rod ends and center link kit, and anti-sway urethane. Now my master cylinder is giving out. Kit on the way! Running out of time to do the top. Blasted through a storm the other day. Stayed pretty dry at 80 mph!
